ThePioneer - Floating Cinema

Our English-language event format “ Floating Cinema” brings you films aimed at tackling the most pressing issues of our time. The evening combines cozy, interactive discussion with the creators of the film - the directors and actors - as well as with experts. Audience participation requested! 

The evening winds down with a screening of the film - right on the River Spree, straight from our floating Newsroom on board ThePioneer One. 

At the second event in our new series Floating Cinema, we’re going to be screening the film XY Chelsea. The documentary tells the true story of whistleblower, ex-soldier and trans woman Chelsea Manning, whose 35-year sentence in an all-male maximum security prison was commuted by President Obama in 2017. Following the screening we will be discussing topics centering on whistleblowing and transgender issues with experts Thomas Kastning, manager of Whistleblower-Netzwerk e.V.; Anastasia Biefang, vice chairperson of LGBT+ advocacy group Queer BW and first trans female commander in the history of the German military; as well as the film’s director, Tim Travers Hawkins.
